Description
My dad is selling a1989 custom built 16’ Henry O DLX dual console
(technically a McKee Craft) with the original
Johnson 88SPL motor with a power tilt and trim
. This “collector like” boat is a true, very classic beauty.
If you don’t know the history, Henry O / McKee Craft do not have the mainstream “name recognition” in the industry. Please do your research on these boats. This is an original “Henry O” boat not a “Taylor made” boat. The craftsmanship of an original “Henry O” has an impressive reputation to be tough as nails and extremely well built.
This particular boat has a double hull construction of fully injected polyurethane foam exceeding all coast guard and BIA floatation requirements. Virtually unsinkable and extremely comparable to Boston Whalers (same exact hull material and very similar design). Wood bonded to fiberglass under all floor and gunnel areas for extra holding strength to secure console, seats, etc.
I was not able to find anything else on this boat.
However, I was able to get in contact with Mr. Scott McKee and asked him about this particular boat:
"There is plywood under the deck and gunwale and most other flat horizontal surfaces. His father, Henry O called it a "modified V hull and has strakes or lifters to divert water and down to keep the wind from blowing it even further up into the boat thus wetting the occupants. This exact boat is #14 of 16 ft models."
You don’t see many of these for sale and it is difficult to find this particular Henry O boat in the 16’ length because not many of these were made. The 16’ version was released in 1989 featuring an upgraded innovated design of the previous models. Founder, Henry O Mckee sold the company in 1990 and the boats manufactured after 1990 absolutely are not the same as the original “Henry O” boats.

Boat condition:
My dad purchased this boat back in March of 2017. The last time the boat was used is September of 2018. That was also the last time the boat was serviced. The starter was replaced, water pump replaced, had a major tune up, all gear oil changed.
Trying to start the boat up now, it will crank up but engine isn’t firing. Boat has been stored in dry storage the past 2 years/when it wasn’t in the water and we didn’t have any major problems with it owning the boat. There are no outstanding faults with this engine.
Doing my research, the Johnson 88SPL is reliable and an excellent engine. Engine is most likely misfiring because of how long it’s sat without being used. Also, the gelcoat of the boat had some cracks by the front of the boat.
The gelcoat was patched by a repair putty but it was not done at a Fiberglass boat repair shop. Boat has a clean/clear title and I will provide you with the boat history report confirming the boat history and model.
From Scott McKee when I explained the boat condition:
"The carb problem happens a lot to boats stored if they are are not treated with a stabilizer to keep the gas from turning to gel. Go online and find a reputable boat mechanic in your area to rebuild and clean the carbs. It should cost around 0 to 0 for an honest mechanic to work them back to new. Good luck Scott Mckee"
We are selling this boat because we don’t take it out on the water as much as we’d like to and the boat is just taking up space. I think I covered everything there is to know about this boat. This boat is located in Atlanta, GA.Please feel free to ask me any other questions!

Brief history of the family business
“McKee Craft Boats” was established in 1966 and Henry O McKee was the designer and cofounder of that company owned by his brother Lanness McKee. Henry O. Mckee wasn’t satisfied in his desire to create the ultimate comfortable, dry and stable riding small craft, so in 1974 he ventured out on his own to pursue his vision. He established Henry O. Mckee & Sons near Bolivia, NC.
After several years of experimenting, he and his sons began successfully producing the "Henry O" in 1983. First came the 150 Challenger and later the 179 Invader. After realizing that conventional hull designs were not the answer, he began creating a radically new and streamlined hull in a 17' model. This hull design proved to be the fulfillment of Henry's vision, a stable, highly maneuverable soft dry ride.
Later versions of this innovative design came in 22' and 16' lengths. In spring of 1989, four models were being produced. In 1990, Henry decided to sell the company and return. Henry's two sons, Scott and Andy continued on with a boat repair business offering expert repairs, leaning posts/baitwells and some other custom products located in Bolivia, NC.
